Muthanga Wildlife Safari

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second largest wildlife sanctuary in Kerala and contains of rare and endangered species of both flora and fauna. The sanctuary is parted into two, known as Upper Wayanad and Lower Wayanad WLS. Lower Wayanad WLS is known as Muthanga Wildlife Range. The Reserve is home to a small population of tigers, Elephants, Jungle Cats, Panthers, Civet Cats, Monkeys, Wild dogs, Deers, Spotted Bears, Bison, Gaurs, Cheetah, Wild Bears, Peacock, Owls, Jungle fowls, Woodpeckers, Babblers, Cuckoos.

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary was brought under the Project Elephant in the year 1991-92. The sanctuary is bordered with Nagarhole WLS & Bandipur WLS in Karnataka and Mudumalai WLS in Tamilnadu. It is the second largest WLS in Kerala and is now an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Among the best sanctuaries near Kozhikode, the sanctuary is divided into two separate parts, known as Upper Wayanad WLS and Lower Wayanad WLS. Upper Wayanad WLS at Tholpetty is known as Tholpetty Wildlife Range.

Nagarahole National Park

At a distance of 62 km from Kalpetta, 88 km from Mysore and 218 km from Bangalore, Nagarhole National Park is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in India. Also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, it is spread across Mysore and Kodagu districts in Karnataka. Originally the forest area was the private hunting ground for the Maharajas of Mysore. It was converted into a sanctuary in the year 1955 covering an area of 258 sq. km and subsequently enlarged to include the adjoining areas of Mysore district and now extends over an area of 643 sq. km. Nagarhole got National Park status in 1988 and declared as 37th Project Tiger Reserve in 1999.

Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary

Bandipur National Park is regarded as one of the most beautiful and better-managed national parks of India. Located amidst the picturesque surroundings of the towering Western Ghats on the Mysore-Ooty highway in Karnataka, it is an important part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve that constitutes Karnataka’s Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarahole) to its Northwest, Tamil Nadu’s Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary to its South, and Kerala’s Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary to its Southwest. The total extent of Bandipur National Park is 872.24 sq km.

Mudumalai Tiger Reserve

The Reserve has tall grasses, commonly referred to as “Elephant Grass”, Bamboo of the giant variety, valuable timber species like Teak, Rosewood, etc. Such a varied habitat is inhabited by a variety of animals. This reserve has got a wide variety of more than 260 species of birds. Eight percentage of bird species found in India are recorded in Mudumalai. Hornbills play an important role in dispersal of seeds. Malabar whistling thrush, peacock and jungle fowl are the other important bird species found in Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary.

Kabini Wildlife Reserve

Kabini forest reserve is one of the best wildlife destination in Karnataka mainly because of its accessibility, rich green vegetation, water body and possibility of the animal spotting. The connection of south-eastern part of Nagarahole National Park gives more chances for animal spotting during summer. On the banks of Kabini Reservoir we could find forest land, steep valleys and other water bodies. Kabini is surrounded by Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary and connected to several other lands like Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, Kuruva Island, Sagar Dam, etc.
